COOLUM, Australia (AP) - British Open champion Darren Clarke shared the early lead Thursday after 11 holes of his round at the Australian PGA, level with five other golfers on 4-under.
The Northern Irishman, starting on the back nine at the Hyatt Recency resort course, was tied with Australians Rohan Blizard, Aaron Townsend and Marcus Fraser, New Zealander Josh Geary and China's Wu Kangchun.
Adam Scott had a terrible start off the back nine, triple-bogeying the par-3 11th, and plunked balls into the water on two other holes to make the turn in 4-over 40. Australian Open champion Greg Chalmers had no such trouble on the 11th, making a hole-in-one.
Rain and thunderstorms were forecast for later in the day.
