ABERDEEN, Scotland (AP) - Britain & Ireland regained the Walker Cup from the United States on Sunday after 17-year-old Welshman Rhys Pugh won his singles match and English amateur champion Steven Brown halved his to take the team to the 13 1/2 points needed for victory.
Pugh beat U.S. amateur champion Kelly Kraft 2 and 1 and Brown then halved with Blayne Barber to give Britain & Ireland an insurmountable lead.
With Paul Cutler still on the course against American Patrick Cantley, the home team held a 13½-11½ lead.
Britain & Ireland led by five points after the morning foursomes. Michael Stewart also earned a full point for the hosts by beating Patrick Rodgers 3 and 2 in the afternoon singles.
