LEE COUNTY, Fla - Along with a new name, there will also be a new look.
As Edison State College makes the transition to become Florida SouthWestern State College, there will be new logos and new college colors. Today, President Jeff Allbritten unveiled the logos and the Buccaneers mascot.
“Just as we were thoughtful in selecting a new name that embraces the five counties we represent, we also wanted colors that bring forth many of the characteristics that are part of who we are as an institution,” said Dr. Allbritten. “The core of what we do remains true to our vision and mission, which in part is ‘to inspire learning; prepare a diverse population for creative and responsible participation in a global society; and serve as a leader for intellectual, economic, and cultural awareness in the community’”.
The colors selected for Florida SouthWestern State College are purple and aqua. Purple is symbolic of royalty, wisdom, enlightenment and creativity. Aqua is universally known for its soothing effect, and symbolizes youth, health and hope.
In honor of the college’s history and past athletic successes, the Florida SouthWestern State College mascot will be the Buccaneers.
The Florida SouthWestern State College name will become the official as of July 1, 2014.
