PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Law enforcement had to intervene in a violent fight at Port Charlotte High School around noon today.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said Yonatan Amaya and a juvenile student now face misdemeanor charges.
The school security guard and school resource officer made several unsuccessful attempts to break up the two students involved in the fight, according to CCSO, but eventually the SRO had to use pepper spray and a Taser on one of the students.
A representative with the Charlotte County School District said the fight began while the students were at ACT test preparation in the auditorium.
Both students were transported to Peace River Regional Hospital to be checked out.
Upon release, both students were arrested for Breach of Peace and Resisting an Officer. Amaya was transported to the Charlotte County Jail where he was hld on a $1,500 bond.
