ESTERO, Fla. -An Estero High School Senior will have some extra help paying for college after a big surprise from some famous faces.
Former Miami Dolphin Nat Moore, along with cheerleaders and members of Sun Life Financial Group presented Angel Lopez with a $5,000 college scholarship.
Lopez is a mentor with the New Horizons program, and was recognized for his work with kids.
He applied for the scholarship earlier this year but had no idea he won until today.
Lopez says he was shocked and excited. He says he plans to go FGCU next year to study medicine, and the scholarship money will be a big help.
His parents were also on hand for the presentation.
As part of the award, the New Horizons program also received a $50,000 donation. It will use the money to open a new teen center, like the one Lopez is a part of, in East Naples.
