GULFPORT, Fla. (AP) - Prosecutors and Department of Juvenile Justice officials have recommended a 9-month probation sentence for two of the three teens accused of brutally beating a 13-year-old student on a school bus in Gulfport.
The Tampa Bay Times ( reports police arrested three 15-year-old boys after the July 9 incident. Detectives say the victim was kicked and stomped about 23 times.
The two state agencies disagree on how strict the probation should be, with the prosecutors arguing for a stricter program.
The recommendations were discussed in preliminary court hearings Tuesday.
Two defendants face juvenile aggravated battery charges. Officials are working on recommendations for the third defendant, who is facing juvenile charges of aggravated battery and robbery.
Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Raymond Gross set another hearing for Aug. 27 in all three cases.
