LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Lee County school board will begin the process for a national superintendent search in October, but it's not soon enough for one board member.
Don Armstrong wanted the search process to begin immediately. Last week, the board agreed to offer Dr. Nancy Graham a one year contract as superintendent, under the condition it also conducts a nationwide search. However, board members disagreed on a timeline. Now Armstrong says he will take back his vote for Dr. Graham.
Don Armstrong says, "I didn't see a compromise so I'll go ahead and rescind my vote for Mrs. Graham which basically means I didn't make it." Meanwhile Mary Fischer says, "I think support from us is critical..and if we are immediately out looking that doesn't demonstrate support."
Even if Armstrong takes back his vote, it won't change the outcome. Dr. Nancy Graham will be sworn in as superintendent on June 19th.
