COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- A Collier County school teacher is under investigation tonight, facing allegations of child abuse.
The Department of Children and Families tells WINK News they are investigating Laurie Nowlin and complaints made against her.
Nowlin is a fifth grade teacher at Pelican Marsh Elementary School in Naples. She was a Teacher of Distinction in 2009.
The school district says she has been reassigned to the administrative building while DCF investigates.
Some parents say she's been a great teacher for their children, while others say she has a history of saying things that have made their kids upset.
According to the Florida Department of Education, Nowlin is certified to teach elementary education, English as a second language and gifted classes.
DCF says in situations involving child abuse allegations against teachers, they will complete an investigation and determine if abuse or neglect occured.
DCF will share its report and findings with school administrators, who will decide what happens next.
