LEE COUNTY, Fla - 30 Lee County teachers were tardy for class today. They were being treated to breakfast at McDonald's as this year's finalists for the Golden Apple teacher recognition award.

The breakfast is part of the process of selecting the six teachers who will be awarded the Golden Apple later this spring.

The Golden Apple award is a program given by the community to educators. Over the next several weeks the 30 teachers who have made it to the final round, will be interviewed and observed in the classroom. The results of those interviews and observations will be calculated, and the top 6 teachers will be selected.

The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools coordinates the Golden Apple program.
