Fort Myers, Fla.-- Students in Lee County public schools will see new textbooks and teaching materials next year.
The Lee County School Board approved spending $17 million dollars on new textbooks, software and other teaching materials.
Board members say switching to e-books is a major way the school district can cut costs.
Member Jeanne Dozier says "it could have the potential of saving millions of dollars because you will just be updating software, you won't be buying brand new textbooks every 5 to 7 years."
Members of the board also say they are already in talks about e-textbooks for students.
Florida law requires all public schools to use them by the 2016 school year.
