TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Board of Education is moving forward in its search for the state's next education commissioner.
The board approved a list of qualifications it is looking for in potential candidates at its meeting Friday. Those included strong executive leadership skills, experience leading a large organization and ability to implement a plan to provide all students a world class education.
So far the state has received only a handful of applications but a search agency has identified more than 20 candidates.
Commissioner Gerard Robinson resigned in July after just a year on the job. He left amid glitches in the state's school grading system and standardized testing program. Previously he served as Virginia's education secretary.
