LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The county is divided into three zones.
Parents can choose which school they want their child to apply within their zone...but then the lottery system assigns them. Families who apply Tuesday don't have any better chance than families who turn in an application on the last day they're accepted.
This first batch of applications will be accepted starting Tuesday and can be turned in through Friday, March 2. The first application period is mandatory for current students of Lee County public schools attending pre-K, fifth or eighth grade.
There are thousands of students who fall into that category and should have received pre-printed applications in the mail last week. New students to the district will also need to apply in person. Students currently enrolled in any grade at a Lee County school can also apply if they want to switch to a different school in the new year. Those students who already got an application in the mail can apply online too.
You can apply in person at the Lee County School Board on Colonial or in the zone offices in Lehigh and Cape Coral. Also, something to consider when choosing which school you'd prefer.. There are two new schools opening this upcoming year and new programs in existing schools that may appeal to your child. As long as you get your application in by the March 2 deadline, you will be considered for enrollment.
