LEE COUNTY, Fla - The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is recruiting mentors for high school and middle school students who were selected as scholarship recipients in the Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program. What makes the Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program unique is that each student who is selected to receive the scholarship also is matched with a mentor to support and guide them through their remaining years until graduation.
Mentors are caring adults who can listen, coach, guide, and motivate students to do their best in school and to make the best choices in life; they become student advocates and role models. Mentors meet with their assigned scholar for the course of the school year, during school hours, on school grounds for one hour, two to three times per month. Given extensive support, motivation, and accountability, children will work hard to ensure that they graduate from high school and attain a college degree.
The Foundation is recruiting mentors for high school and middle school scholarship recipients in the following schools:
East Lee County High
Fort Myers High
Ida Baker High
Lehigh Senior High
James Stephens International
Varsity Lakes Middle
Hear from a mentor: “My student is focused now on going to college, and he sees the Take Stock scholarship with FGCU as his best opportunity. Since touring FGCU last spring, he now believes in his own potential to attend college next year. It has been a remarkable journey with him. I am confident he will continue with his success and commitment to the Take Stock program. My thanks to everyone at The Foundation for making a difference in this young man's life."
