MACON, Ga. - The FGCU women's basketball team has claimed its first ever Atlantic Sun Conference tournament title with a 67-39 win over Stetson. The win also guarantees the Eagles an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. FGCU (29-2) has now won 21 straight games, finishing 18-0 in conference play, and three more wins in Macon.
Sarah Hansen led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Senior Courtney Chihill added 15 points and went over the 1,000 point mark for her career at FGCU. Chihill, senior Eglah Griffin, and freshman Whitney Knight joined Hansen on the All-Tournament team.
FGCU is only the second team in conference history go undefeated in conference play and win the touranment title. FIU also did it back in 1993.
The Eagles will now wait to find out seeding and where they will play in their first ever NCAA tournament.
