Andy Enfield, the new head coach of FGCU men's basketball, played at Johns Hopkins and received an MBA in Maryland. He set an all-time NCAA record for free-throw percentage (92.5%.) He was an assistant coact at FSU from 2006-2011. Now he joins Clayton Ferraro to discuss the coming year for FGCU men's basketball.
Andy Enfield tells Clayton about Recruiting, "Recruiting is based on relationships...You "sell the future." 'When you are competing against other schools, FGCU doesn't sell the past because FGCU doesn't have a past. You sell what the recruit will have over the next four years.'
This is the first year that FGCU has been eligible for the Atlantic Sun and NCAA tournaments during the 2011-2012 season. FGCU finished seventh in the Atlantic Sun in 2010-2011 season (they would have been eligible to compete in the conference tournament). Christophe Varidel is a top returning scorer for FGCU with 11.2 points per game.
Nobody else can speak against FGCU in recruiting anymore that FGCU is not NCAA elligible; FGCU is now a full-fledged sports school for men's basketball athletics.
