PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Film crews from A&E Network's "Beyond Scared Straight" were in Charlotte County over this past weekend documenting Charlotte County’s "Fresh Start" program.
The crew arrived on Friday to film Sheriff Bill Prummell. They also did a walk-through of the Charlotte County Jail, checking out the environment in preparation for filming the next day.
The filming began in earnest on Saturday when seven first-time misdemeanor juvenile offenders – five males and two females – arrived at the jail. The crew followed the group as they were met by five members of the Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Unit.
After being fingerprinted and photographed, the participants went into cell blocks to see what it is actually like in a jail, experiencing the feeling of being locked-down. Then they went into a classroom within the jail to hear from several inmates what it is like to be in jail.
Although there is no exact release date, the episode of “Beyond Scared Straight” concerning Charlotte County is expected to be aired within the next six months.
