TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Republican fundraising efforts yielded nearly $6 million during the first three months of this year.

The Republican Party of Florida filed its latest campaign report Wednesday.

The Republicans raised six times as much as Democrats reported. The Florida Democratic Party reported raising more than $1.1 million during the same time period.

Major donors to the Republicans include utilities such as Progress Energy and Florida Power & Light. Democrats received donations from unions, well known law firm and utilities.

The campaign report also shows that Republicans donated $300,000 to a veterans charity while Democrats donated $250,000 to veterans groups.

The two parties made the contributions in the wake of donations received from those affiliated with Allied Veterans of the World. An investigation into the charity has resulted in arrests.
