LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Florida Governor Rick Scott is coming to Fort Myers tomorrow. He's going to unveil a series of proposals for your kids' schools.
Governor Scott is the key note speaker at tomorrow's education summit at the Harborside Events Center. The ideas he's going to propose come right from his education tour around the state. One of the things he wants to do is help teachers buy the supplies they need for the classroom without digging into their own pockets.
The Governor wants to get debit cards into the hands of teachers. He says donations can pay for the cards, so the teachers don't have to, like they do now.
Governor Scott will also ask the legislature tomorrow to lift the limit on charter schools in the state. The Governor says if school districts are given more freedom to improve then they will find ways to get better.
A third idea of his is ending repeated changes to testing requirements until Florida adopts national common core standards. Those standards are due in 2014. He says schools will not teach to the test and there will not be a war on teachers.
Much of what the Governor will propose are ideas he's brought up before, but his speech tomorrow will include more details.
Governor Scott will sit down with us just after 7:30 tomorrow morning on WINK News now this morning on TV6.
