MIAMI (AP) - Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is endorsing Mitt Romney to become the Republican Party's presidential nominee.

Bush made the announcement in a statement released Wednesday.

Bush urged Republicans to unite behind Romney, saying he believes the former Massachusetts governor is best suited to take the party's message of fiscal conservatism and job creation to voters in the general election.

Bush wrote that the country faces "huge challenges." He added that the United States needs "a leader who understands the economy, recognizes more government regulation is not the answer, believes in entrepreneurial capitalism and works to ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to succeed.

Romney won the Illinois presidential preference primary on Tuesday.
