COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is coming to South Carolina to address an annual Republican fundraising dinner.

The South Carolina Republican Party said Tuesday that Rubio will give the keynote address at the May 19 Silver Elephant dinner in Columbia.

State party Chairman Chad Connelly says this year's event honors the party's heritage and inclusiveness. Connelly says Rubio's willingness to stand up to President Barack Obama made him an ideal choice.

Former Pennsylvania senator and GOP presidential contender Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania gave the keynote address at last year's event.
