TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The local host committee for the Republican National Convention has selected eight Floridians as honorary co-chairs.
RNC officials announced the names Monday: Former U.S. Senator Connie Mack, former governors Jeb Bush and Bob Martinez, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster, Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos, former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker.
They will serve as goodwill ambassadors for the convention. Iorio and Buckhorn are Democrats.
The convention will be held in downtown Tampa at the Tampa Bay Times Forum from Aug. 27-30. More than 50,000 visitors are expected to come to the area for the event.
The Tampa Bay Host Committee is a nonprofit organization working to raise $55 million to help stage the convention and promote the area.
