MIAMI (AP) - Former state Rep. Adam Hasner will drop out of the Republican Senate primary and instead run for Congress.
A source close to the campaign said Hasner will make the announcement Wednesday. The source didn't want to be named before the announcement is made.
Hasner trails far behind frontrunner Rep. Connie Mack in polls and is making the move as Republican Reps. Tom Rooney and Allen West shift districts under new political boundaries being proposed by the Legislature.
The seat Hasner will seek is in a district that contains his entire former state district. He will be able to transfer $700,000 from his Senate campaign account to the new race.
Also seeking the nomination to challenge Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson are former Sen. George LeMieux and retired Army Col. Mike McCalister.
