LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Former Governor Jeb Bush is back in the political spotlight.

A mysterious poll conducted last week in a dozen swing states show surprising support for Bush. Purple Strategies, a Washington based Public Affairs firm, tested Bush's favorability among voters in states needed to win the White House. The poll also included hypothetical match-up with President Obama.

"We put Jeb Bush in to try and test somebody who is a well known Republican, but someone who hasn't been tested as much", said  Doug Usher.

Bush, however, is no white knight for the Republican party.

According to a poll of Southwest states including Florida, Bush trails President Obama 49% to 45%.

"On the other hand, he actually has a lower unfavorable rating, that is people dislike him less than some the other Republicans, that probably has to do with the fact that he hasn't been bashed over the last couple of months as some of the Republicans have", added Usher.

Bush has said he is not running in 2012.
