FORT MYERS, Fla. - In August, nearly 12,000 people were fed up with telemarketers and joined the Florida Do Not Call List. There are more than half a million phone numbers on the list right now. But telemarketers keep calling people on that list. That was the number one complaint the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services received last month.
What does the state do about it?
After receiving a few complaints about a business, the DACS will open an investigation. If the agency finds a company violating the do not call list, then they can fine them.
In July, WINK News Call For Action exposed Service Star Enterprise Inc. a local air conditioning company, which has been fined three times for violating the do not call list.
If you want to stop telemarketers from calling you, then sign up for the state list. Even if you're already signed up for the national list.
It's free and easy to do so.
You can sign up online at www.fldnc.com or by calling 800-HELP-FLA (435-7352).
Once you're signed up, if you receive a call from a telemarketer, file a complaint either by phone or online.
