PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A scam is preying on job seekers in Southwest Florida. A WINK News viewer alerted us to the scam, which luckily she didn't fall victim.

It started with a search on Craigslist for a job. One Port Charlotte woman clicked on an ad for a front desk administrative assistant. The job poster claimed to be a "Program Director who specializes on taking exhibitions, holding lectures and special events in architectural development." The job promised $700 a week.

The first assignment was to cash a check and send the money to an address in New Orleans. But this time the email was sent from a different address, and that's when our viewer became suspicious.

The sender also included a tracking number with the check, which shows it originated in Finland, another red flag.

The first thing we noticed when we looked at the check is there are two banks listed at the top, RBC Capital Markets and US Bank.

They're both real organizations, but they're not affiliated, so it's a little strange that they would both be on the same check.

Secondly, we checked the nine digit routing number at the bottom and according to RoutingNumbers.Org, it's bogus.

The link our viewer clicked on has since been removed from Craigslist, but unfortunately these guys can put up a new one in a matter of seconds.
