FORT MYERS, Fla. - A doomsday scenario is circulating emails and social media with a prediction that turns out to be true. But not for the reasons you might think. WINK News viewers asked Call For Action to look into this particular email.
One example says "an inside source guarantees that within a week of the election all the banks will be closed, government offices will be shut down and soldiers will be marching the streets."
This is one of those pranks where you need a calendar nearby to separate the fact from fiction. Five days after the election is November 11th, Veteran's Day, where banks and government offices will be closed, and yes soldiers will be marching the streets in parades.
The prank can be recycled every four years. Our friends at Snopes.com, which debunks urban legends and rumors, found examples in 2008, 2004 and even as far back as 1980 when Ronald Reagan was elected President.
