LEE COUNTY, Fla. - WINK News has learned eight more people are wanted for cashing bogus Lee County School District checks. Thirty people are already facing charges after cashing thousands of dollars worth of fake checks. All of this after a WINK News Investigation linked some of the people arrested to the Lee County School District.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office has warrants for:
· · Michael J. Farace
· · Crystal Cherrelle Gary
· · Rhonda Luvenia Moore
· · Alexis Rodriguez
· · Archie Jerome Russ, Jr.
The Fort Myers Police Department has open booking sheets for:
· Tenish Ruffin
· Joseph Byrd
· Alayna Deleon
WINK News has been digging into the backgrounds of some of those wanted by police and we've learned some are career criminals. Some have past charges of robbery, cruelty towards a child, burglary and battery. They're wanted by the Fort Myers Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff's Office in connection to Operation School Detention.
When WINK News spoke with the Lee County School District in June, only 17 people had been arrested.
"We're not out any dollars, we're not out any tax payer dollars. Unfortunately there were some local businesses that cashed checks that were not valid," said Joe Donzelli, Communications Director for the Lee County School District.
A WINK News investigation has shown at least two of the 30 people arrested so far do have family members that work at the Lee County School District but no one, including WINK News, has been able to link family members to any criminal activity.
