FORT MYERS, Fla.- If you're traveling this holiday season, chances are you'll pay a few airline fees especially if you are bringing a bag. CALL FOR ACTION looks at what you'll pay and how much the airlines are making.
Here are how the fees break down on some of the most popular airlines out of Southwest Florida for the first bag:
US AIR $25
AIR TRAN $20
Jet Blue doesn't charge for the first bag and Southwest doesn't charge for the first two bags.
The bag fees annoy many passengers.
"It does bother me now that I have to pay the fees. Before I didn't have to, now I have to. And it's a lot of money," said Art Zazzaro from Rochester, NY.
It does add up. In just the first six months of 2011, airlines raked in $1.7 billion in baggage fees. Delta lead the way with $424 million. American collected $293 million. U.S. Air brought in $255 million and Air Tran collected $85 million all from baggage fees.
That's why a lot of travelers are choosing to pack light and carry on to avoid the hassle altogether.
