CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A Cape Coral woman has some advice if you're holiday shopping online: you need to check your list more than twice.  That's because if you're not careful, you won't be getting your gift in time for Christmas.

Teacher Linda Stebbins thought it would be easier to ship her grandson's present to Texas instead of carrying it on the plane.  But when her online purchase turned into a shipping nightmare, she called us for action.

"Christmas is coming.  I promised my grandson a scooter," Linda explained.

So when she found the item on Toys R Us' website, she thought her problem was solved.

"They said that the item would ship by December 24th," Linda told WINK.

But she received a big surprise on her order confirmation, saying the scooter would not be shipped out until January.  When asked why she didn't call Toys R Us right away she told us, "I waited a day or two hoping that they would update the shipping schedule, figuring that they were backlogged; and when I found out that it was indeed still January, I called them up and they told me that that is indeed the ship date."

She tried to cancel and found out she was too late.

"So apparently, this particular item gets shipped from a manufacturer somewhere else in the United States and they have no contact with those vendors that they can call and cancel an order," said Linda.

Toys R Us told her she could ship it back once she received it in January, and she would have to foot the bill to ship it back.  Afraid she wouldn't be able to buy the same scooter once in Texas, Linda felt she only had one other choice.

"I'll go out and purchase it locally.  I'll pay the airline fee and hand carry it myself, all the way to Texas... that's what's on his list.  So I guess the grandmother's got to do what she's got to do."  One way or another, Linda told us her grandson was getting his present.

"Oh, Dylan is going to get his roll-- razor skate-- scooter, whatever it is he calls it, and he'll have a very Merry Christmas."

We called Toys R Us about the banner on the website saying you could get the toy by Christmas.  A representative told us they talked to the manufacturer and arranged for the scooter to ship immediately to Texas with two-day shipping.  So it will get there in time for Christmas!

As for the offer Linda saw on the Toys R Us website, "Get it there by December 24th," the offer isn't as clear-cut as it may look.  You have to click on the "offer details" which shows you when you have to purchase the item in order for it to arrive on time.  You also have to look at the shipping information to figure out if the item will ship in time for Christmas.  In her case, the "Razor Powerwing Caster Scooter" ships in 2 to 3 weeks.

We also asked Toys R Us why Linda wasn't able to cancel her order and the company says that's just their policy.  Customers have a limited time to cancel and that information can be found on the website and the confirmation order.
