ESTERO, Fla.- A new development project may soon pop up near the Florida Gulf Coast University campus.

Our partners at the News-Press say a local developer is moving forward to build an 886-acre "University Village," on land north and east of the university.

The private equity group says the "centerplace" area would have about 2,000 homes, a hotel, and areas for parks, shops and offices.

Zoning hearings are expected to start this fall and if approved, construction would begin next year.
