LEE COUNTY, Fla. - The future of a Walmart set to be built near Fort Myers Beach is now in hands of the Lee County Hearing Examiner.
Today the County Development Staff recommended moving forward with plans to develop the store in Summerlin Square, located at Summerlin Road near San Carlos Boulevard.
The Hearing Examiner has yet to make a recommendation to the county board of commissioners. That process will likely take another two to four weeks while the examiner reviews what was presented in today’s public hearing.
A traffic consultant reviewed a traffic study of the proposed location today. The study shows there will be no significant impact on traffic in the proposed location. The Fort Myers Beach Town Council said they are not convinced that traffic will remain the same.
Once the plans are approved by the county commissioners, it should take about a year for the store to be built.
