TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The Navy has announced that some events during Navy Week have been cancelled due to government spending cuts.
The announcement was made Tuesday.
The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/YCEdhC) reports that the Navy was counting on the Blue Angels aerobatic team to draw crowds. The Blue Angels appearances were curtailed by the automatic budget cuts known as sequestration.
In addition, the Navy faced budget shortfalls as a result of sequestration and cancelled the visit of the USS Halyburton, a frigate.
Originally scheduled for April 1-7, the Navy will have sailors from United States Central Command, Navy Operational Support Center Tampa, and Navy Recruiting District Miami making presentations to civic groups around the Tampa Bay area.
