FORT MYERS, Fla.- Fort Myers' new trolley service is up and running.
People will now be able to get through the streets of downtown Fort Myers just a little bit easier. The River District Trolley Service kicked off at 11:00 a.m. and will continue all the way through mid-April of next year.
This is all being made possible by a partnership with the city and LeeTran.
There are two trolley routes that will run from Monday through Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The two routes are color coordinated: blue and gold. The blue route will from Monoe to Royal Palms Avenue and the Gold runs from the Oasis condiminums to the Edison and Ford Estates.
Downtown had a similiar trolley service back in the 90s, but it wasn't used enough and it was disconitnued. Based on a recent surbvey of 900 people, results show that 75 percent would use this service, which is why they have decided to bring it back.
The city and LeeTran hopes the trolley will help with parking, as more people will be using the trolley for transportation.
