Concerns about the Chinese economy are driving stocks lower at midday.

The Dow Jones industrial average is down 72 points at 13,167. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is lower by eight at 1,402. The Nasdaq composite index is off 21 points at 3,058.

Asian stocks fell sharply Monday after a report that home prices dropped in 45 Chinese cities last month. Economic growth in China has helped sustain the struggling world economy.
