Fire rescue crews responded to a fire in Port Charlotte on Saturday. (CREDIT: Charlotte County Fire and EMS) A fire in Port Charlotte displaced a family of five and killed six cats on Saturday morning. Charlotte County Fire and EMS said they responded to the fire just after 8 a.m. in the 21000 block of Midway Boulevard between US-41 and Lakeview. The family evacuated before firefighters arrived. Two adults and two children refused treatment but a third child was transported to the hospital out of precaution. Six of seven cats did not make it, firefighters said. The Red Cross is assisting the family with lodging. The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
