A person died on Wednesday evening in a crash on McGregor Blvd. at John Morris Rd. in Iona. (Credit: WINK News) The latest victims of a hit-and-run crash are Anita Kate Johnson and her dog, Diva, in south Fort Myers on Wednesday evening. The victim’s boyfriend, Phish Ross, said Diva, her dog, did not leave Johnson’s side even in their final moments. “The dog is usually on a leash,” Ross said. “I asked the trooper if there was a leash attached to the dog or found on the scene. He said there was no leash, so the dog might have gotten loose, run out.” Florida Highway Patrol said Johnson, 63 years old, and her dog were attempting to walk across McGregor Blvd. when a vehicle, “possibly a Nissan passenger car, light in color,” hit Johnson and Diva. Crash investigators are certain a driver ran them over and raced away. Johnson’s boyfriend told WINK News he is lost without his other half, having been together for around a decade. Kim Hambor worked just a few doors from Johnson’s pet grooming business. She told us everyone in the plaza knew the victims and she could not believe the person would leave the scene. “I’ve been having a hard time with humanity lately,” Hambor said. “It just seems like people are full of hate. Where’s the love these days?” If you have any information regarding this crime you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
