Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a dead body found in Peace River in Charlotte County Monday.

A 911 caller reported the body of a man seen in the river along Bayshore Park in Charlotte Harbor. The sheriff’s office marine unit and Punta Gorda Police Department responded to the scene after the call came in around 11:40 a.m.

Investigators believe the body of man was about 100 yards from a park fishing pier when the call came in, but it floated down the river toward the bridge heading into Punta Gorda.

Law enforcement officers said the recovery of the victim was not an easy process and were on scene for several hours before pulling the body from the river.

The release of the victim’s name is pending notification of next of kin. The sheriff’s office said the death is not suspicious.
