Detectives are looking into a suspicious incident at a Collier County bus stop.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an active investigation into reports of a stranger approaching students in the Moon Lake development, a gated community east of Naples, Friday morning.

The sheriff’s office received a call from someone who said a man went up to kids while they waited for the school bus.

Neighbor Debbie Boyden is alarmed by this report. She has lived in the community 23 years and has not heard of anything like this.

“There’s a lot of children in this neighborhood,” Boyden said. “And that’s just too close to home, scary.”

Bill Taylor, who lives nearby, bikes near this bus stop and knows from professional experience how quickly things can get out of hand. Taylor said a man approached his daughter years ago and exposed himself to her.

“The child has to be taught at an early age that there are people out there that may choose to do that,” Taylor said.

We contacted the Moon Lake homeowner’s association for an interview and did not hear back in time for publication.
