The Florida Everglades left Southwest Florida with a 2-0 series lead over the Jacksonville Icemen and found themselves tied up 2-2 to start Game 5 Saturday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville.

The Blades fought for the series lead once again and came out on top with a commanding 5-1 win, defeating the Icemen away to go up 3-2 in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

“That first goal by Ben Masella was a huge goal for our group,” head coach Brad Ralph said. “It really got us … We were encouraged by it, and it generated a lot of momentum from the bench, so hats off to our group. We thought they came with a ton of emotion and showed a ton of character and leadership tonight.”

The Blades can advance to the second round with a win in Game 6 Monday, April 22.
