2 teens arrested in Lehigh Acres shooting, 1 teen dead

Two teen suspects were arrested on murder charges after a shooting that happened Saturday.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jerry Murassaint, 16, and Lamartine Malbranche, 15, Sunday after they were involved in a transaction that turned into a shooting in Lehigh Acres.

The shooting took place near the intersection of Centennial Boulevard and Cedartree Avenue.

On Sunday, LCSO identified 14-year-old J’Martin Hixon as a suspect killed in the shooting.

Malbranche and Murassaint face charges for Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Robbery with Firearm and Murder while Engaged in Certain Felony Offense. Murassaint also faces a charge for Tampering or Destroying of Evidence.

On Saturday at 7 p.m., deputies responded to the intersection of Cedartee Ave. and Centennial Blvd. in Lehigh Acres in response to the shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found an adult male victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, who was taken to a local hospital.

According to LCSO, Detectives found out the adult victim arranged to meet the buyer of an item he posted online. The adult made contact with two males and during the exchange, one of them pulled a gun and shot the adult. The adult victim also pulled a gun and shot one of the two males, who has been identified as Hixon.

Deputies found Hixon with life-threatening injuries, and he died at the scene. Deputies also found and arrested suspects Murassaint and Malbranche.

According to online booking logs, Murassaint and Malbranche were released around 12:40 p.m. Sunday.

LCSO said the shooting remains an active investigation.
