(Credit: Renderings via Sunseeker’s Resort) A project you have heard about for around a year is now about to break ground. WINK News had an exclusive look at crews getting ready to start the massive project, something some neighbors said they are prepared for. Allegiant Airlines is preparing to start construction on its new Sunseeker Resort on a 22-acre plot of land. The airline will allocate $470 million for turning the land into hotel rooms, shops and restaurants over the upcoming 18 months to 24 months. Sunseeker Resort Chief Operating Officer Micah Richins said the project blueprint is also a little different with the company nixing its condo-heavy plans for more extended stay suites. They revealed new images of what patrons can expect to see inside the hotel rooms. It is no coincidence the site is five miles from the Punta Gorda Airport, which exclusively services Allegiant Airlines for commercial flights. But some homeowners who live blocks from the resort are not happy about the expected increase of traffic. The addition of 600 new jobs and an influx of money that will be spent is expected to help Charlotte County’s bottom line.
