Young bald eagle undergoes surgery to remove left eye

A nesting bald eagle admitted to a rehabilitation clinic Tuesday was undergoing surgery to remove its left eye.

The bald eagle was admitted to the Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife from St. James City on Pine Island Tuesday. The eaglet was found on the ground beneath its nest and had a depressed mentation upon admission, the CROW press release states.

Veterinary staff began working to administer fluids and obtain a blood chemistry. The young eagle also has a damaged left eye which makes its future uncertain.
