Fernando Licopoli For some people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer it can seem like a death sentence, but with the help of citizens here in Southwest Florida, people are raising awareness about the deadly disease. The important thing about being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer is discovering it early, this gives patients the best chance to fight the disease. One man right here in SWFL was lucky enough to find out before it was too late, but that doesn’t necessarily make it easier. “It’s overwhelming. The reality of mortality strikes you,” said Fernando Licopoli. He learned of his diagnosis nine years ago after feeling intense pain in his abdomen then going to see a doctor. Unfortunately, some are not lucky enough to discover it early. “My wife was diagnosed in the fall of 2013, she died in May of 2015 two days after she turned 51,” said Steve Witter.
