Tuesday, Lee County will begin the process of widening Corkscrew Road road to a 4-lane road in Estero.

The expansion will start at Ben Hill Griffin Road and go four-and-a-half miles east to Alico Road.

The project will take a few years to complete, as the design project will take about 18 months, and after that they will begin phase 1 in 2021. That road work will be between Ben Hill Griffin and Bella Terra Blvd.

Following phase 1, phase 2 will start in 2023, and that will be between Bella Terra and Alico Road.

Because the area continues to grow, a phase 3 is already in the works, and that will expand the road to 6 lanes.
