Investigators are working to figure out how a woman died in her home. Authorities were originally dispatched for a house fire, but it has become a death investigation.

Mildred “Millie” Noemi River-Lester, 47, died in a house fire Wednesday on Robin Avenue in Lehigh Acres.

“We don’t know anything, nothing,” said William Denson, Lester’s ex-husband. “We’re just waiting on results from the detectives and find out.”

Lee County Sheriff’s Office detectives have questioned neighbors about what they are deeming a mysterious death in Lester’s case.

Lester’s family members said she was found dead locked in her bathroom at home. Her son attempted to break the window to the bathroom to save his mother from the fire. Authorities are still investigation the cause of the fire.

“Very caring mom, loved her kids, granddaughter,” Denson said. “Compassionate about people. She wanted to live the best life she could.”

Lester’s current husband, Odessey Lester, was booked into Lee County Jail on drug charges early Thursday but has since bonded out.

Lester’s death is still under investigation. LCSO considers this an isolated incident and said there is no threat to the public.

The sheriff’s office has not released further details.
