Three ways to save on prescription drugs

We try and get discounts on everything from clothes to groceries. But, when is the last time you tried to get a better price on your prescriptions? Prescription drugs can cost a lot of money.

Here are three things you can do now to make ends meet.

  • Next time you head to the pharmacy, ask if there is a generic option. Switching from a name brand can save money.
  • If generic isn’t available, look for manufacturer coupons and copay nonprofit organizations.
  • Check websites that compare prices.

“Things like GoodRX.com will help you comparison shop even between pharmacies,” said Caitlin Donovan with National Patient Advocate Foundation. “It might be a big difference in your out-of-pocket costs for different drugs.”

When all else fails, ask a pharmacist if you’re getting the best price.
