The Cape Coral Streetscape project isn’t going to be finished until after the new year and business owners say they aren’t sure how much longer they can put up with the construction.

“It’s affecting us, it’s affecting our pockets, it’s affecting our employees pockets at this point,” said Kerry Kreig. Kerry says the months of construction on the Cape’s Streetscape project has taken a serious toll on her restaurant.

“We’re little mom and pops here. We depend on these customers,” she said. “Our customers don’t want to sit on the outside deck on this beautiful day and listen to the jackhammer.”

And the construction will last for longer than originally planned.

The project’s spokesperson announced this week that they will leave the Vincennes Boulevard roundabout open for the holiday shopping season. They say they are “pleased to provide more access to businesses during a critical sales time.”

But the catch? Construction will be pushed back.

“There’s nobody down here! If there were a few more crews down on this road right now, we could get this done,” Kreig said.

Kreig is ready for an end to the year of construction and says businesses like hers need your help this holiday season.

The City of Cape Coral originally said construction would be completed by Christmas. Now, the project is expected to be done sometime in early 2019.
