A man from Fort Myers was arrested on Sunday, when police found a duffel bag full of a variety of drugs, narcotics, as well as two semi-automatic handguns, according to Fort Myers Police Department.

FMPD says, officers were responding to a complaint of gun shots being fired off around 12:17 AM at 3538 Seminole Avenue.

As officers arrived on the scene, they spotted two men in a parked car behind the residence, and when they noticed law enforcement both men left the vehicle and began walking away before being detained by police.

The two were identified as Jose Benitez, 29, and Jaquan Napper, 19.

After investigating, police found a gym bag near the car containing drugs, narcotics, and marijuana in plastic bags along with 2 semi-automatic handguns.

They then found $2,983 in the pocket of Benitez before he admitted to the officers the car and the contents in the bag belong to him, and that he was a convicted felon.

Officers released Napper and transported Benitez to the Fort Myers Police Department where he was charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession of marijuana and controlled substances within 1000 feet of a school and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail.
