The Florida Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 4, that discusses the upcoming construction project in downtown Fort Myers. The focus of the meeting will be about the Cleveland Avenue Pedestrian Safety Project from Winkler Ave to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, where the city wants to improve safety in the downtown area. The project will include construction on medians as well as resurfacing from Winkler Ave. to south Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. FDOT plans to construct a raised median and five mid-block crossings with overhead mounted pedestrian signals. These signals are called High-Intensity Activated crosswalk beacons, or pedestrian hybrid beacons. The meetings are being hosted so FDOT can give people the opportunity to review displays and talk one-on-one with staff. The construction is scheduled to begin as early as December 2018. The neighborhood meeting open house is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Fort Myers on December 4, 2018 at the Araba Shrine Center, 2010 Hanson Street, Fort Myers, Fla. 33901.
