A pawn shop helped to identify a suspect, which led to his eventual arrest for burglary and grand theft auto.

On Friday, Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bobby Lee Fails, 47, for stealing a car and personal belongings from a Naples home.

The sister of the Naples homeowner, who visits the home weekly to house watch and clean, reported the stolen car and belongings to CCSO Thursday, Nov. 8. Among other reported stolen items were cases of water and soda and a television. There were also damages to a window and porch screen.

After pawning the homeowner’s TV for $50, Fails returned to Capital Pawn off Tamiami Trail in the homeowner’s red Hyundai sedan Friday. The pawn owners called law enforcement. Fails was arrested and taken to jail.

After CCSO discovered where Fails pawned the TV, a hold was placed on it. The pawn receipt was used for fingerprinting comparison, and it identified Fails.

Surveillance video at the pawn shop also revealed the homeowner’s car with Fails driving it, as he pulled into the pawn shop parking lot to pawn the TV.

The pawn shop owner admitted suspicion during transaction with Fails and said she is willing to pursue criminal charges, completing a request for prosecution form.

The homeowner’s husband also told law enforcement he is willing to pursue criminal charges against Fails.

According to CCSO’s database, Fails remains in jail on $5,000 bond.
